FAQ's
How does this fit with our current as-built maintenance process?
The typical flow of documentation is as follows:
How is Lynk-it different from competitors?
Our service does not include a new software or viewing interface. We aim to provide a linked drawing set that is functional using Bluebeam since that is the industry standard PDF viewer. That allows you to see the advantages of the linked drawings while still using the powerful PDF editing features of Bluebeam
Does Lynk-it maintain the drawings with RFI's and ASI's?
Lynk-it does not maintain the drawings with RFI's and ASI's because this maintenance requires an intimate knowledge of the project that Lynk-it does not have. For example, if an RFI changes the location of a water heater, it will be important to add a callout on the plumbing drawing set, but also on the mechanical and electrical drawings. because this level of detail is best understood by the General Contractor, Lynk-it does not maintain or red line the drawings.
Who pays for this service on a typical construction project?
While every member of the team stands to benefit from this service, the General Contractor is typically the party that decides to engage the services of Lynk-it for the following reasons:
My project is sensitive and must not be shared with many people. How do I know the drawings safe and confidential?
For sensitive projects, we offer to have every member of our team sign a confidentiality agreement prior to receiving the drawings. Access to the drawings is limited strictly to personnel on the project. The files are transferred using a secure cloud storage service of your choice.
We have just received a large ASI with many new drawings. Can you help us incorporate them into the linked set?
We can link new or modified drawings once they are slipped into the existing drawing set.
Which PDF reading/writing software do you recommend for use with the linked drawings?
While the links will work with most common PDF readers, we recommend Bluebeam for use in the construction industry. See our Resources page for additional links and information.
Will it work with our file management system?
Yes. Once delivered to you, the linked documents can be stored on any server or cloud storage service that you choose.
Other questions?
The typical flow of documentation is as follows:
- Lynk-it builds initial linked drawing set using most current construction documents available at start of construction.
- Architect/design team continues to issue changes (ASI’s, RFI’s, Addenda, etc.) as they typically would.
- The General Contractor updates the drawing set based on the changes issued by the design team. This includes slip sheeting any new versions of drawings and clouding any RFI responses or changes.
- The drawing set is updated on a cloud-based storage folder that is automatically updated on your PC, iPad, or iPhone similar to the way ‘Dropbox’ works

Who pays for this service on a typical construction project?
While every member of the team stands to benefit from this service, the General Contractor is typically the party that decides to engage the services of Lynk-it for the following reasons:
- The G.C. has the most to gain from this product through increased site organization and decreased number of mistakes resulting in money saved during construction.
- Depending on the contract type and stage of the project, the G.C. can often pass the costs through to the owner by selling them on the product also.
- Demonstrating this product to Owners during bid and interview processes can often help win jobs.
- The cost of the service is often offset by a reduction in reproduction costs because hard copy plans are often longer required.
